How Does Your Website Make You Feel?

Take a minute to think about how you feel regarding your website.

Embarrassed? Out of touch? Neglectful?

I talk with people all the time who feel these things about their site, yet do nothing to correct it or are out there looking for another mediocre product. Your website is the front facing representation of you. It’s there, 24/7, 365 days a year, right out in front waving a flag.

It’s not even good enough for a website to be simply “ok”, but we see that as the highlight of most websites.

Now, let’s relate this to something a little more close to home.

We’ve all had the nightmares as a kid about losing your pants at school. (Maybe that should be a topic of another post).Anyways…so you show up for a conference, let’s say, with no pants. You have a dirty trash bag and smell like you took a shower in alcohol. You wouldn’t do that would you?

Why let your website be that guy? (or girl)?

Most people will check out a website before doing business, making a call or otherwise contacting you. It’s time to build a website that truly showcases your brand. This will need to include a few basics:

  1. Your website should represent the quality of the product or service you offer.
  2. It should be clear as to what you actually do. Don’t make people try to figure it out.
  3. It’s not about trying to look like a ________. You need show your unique style as a company.

This can be a hard pill to swallow for some people, but it’s really important if you want to take your company up to the next level. If you do a halfway decent job at showing who you were two years ago, what are others going to think?

It takes work to make a true showcase but it pays off in more ways than you will ever know.
